Gravelord Nito can only be faced after claiming the Lord Vessel, so you won't have a chance to join this covenant until you're over halfway through the game. Once you've got the Lord Vessel you will need to navigate the deadly Tomb of the Giants and The Catacombs to reach his lair.
After killing this giant mass of bone and death, you will also need to find yourself an item called and Eye of Death. These can be picked up where you will go to join the Gravelord covenant, as well as dropped from Basilisks from time to time. As for where you need to go to join the covenant, you're going deep down into The Catacombs. In the crypt area full of coffins and a Titanite Demon, look for an open coffin just before you reach the Titanite Demon.
You can interact with this coffin and actually hop inside it. Just like waiting for the giant crow to take you back to the Undead Asylum, you need to wait here for longer than you might expect before anything happens.
As long as you have an Eye of Death , after about 30 seconds or so a short cutscene will play and you will be brought to a new area with the Sarcophagus Gravelord. It is often difficult to get the right people to invade sometimes agents of the Blade of the Darkmoon and Darkwraith covenants will invade anyway, and killing them does NOT yield Eyes of Death , and skilled players should have no problem defeating the Black Phantoms Gravelords sent to other worlds.
Gravelord servants also run the risk of being invaded by numerous people at once, which is almost never a pleasant situation. I think this is a bit of a wasted opportunity. Imagine if black phantoms would appear on NG. If they're worried about it being too difficult they really should have made it so black phantoms are able to appear so long as the area boss has been defeated. I made up a fun mini game called "defend the stash" where you cover a small area in prism stones and items usually eyes of death with other more valuable stuff and instead of just killing the phantoms you have too keep them from getting the items.
You will want to use fingers. And if they know what is going on they will realize that killing you isn't the point, they must first rob you blind. I had a blast a couple times in the middle of the chapel in Undead Parish with a super twink Dark Beads and Quelaag Furysword.
Died a lot and lost a lot of stuff, namely slabs, gwyn souls, other hyper rare items but it was a ton of fun. If the eyes of death won't work in an area, will the game still let you consume them? I really wish they made nito optional cuz the covenant is pretty fun and mainly cuz I found a really funny spot to troll people. They could have added so many things in this Covenant that would of made it worth wile. Like a nito chime that screams when ever you use grave lord sword dance like the scream that comes out when he does it.
They sould have added a 3rd grave lord sword dance that would be one giant sword coming out of the ground like nitos and clearly sould have added grave lord armor. And how about a special moveset for being a fully lvl grave lord like the grave lord sword glow like nito does it as the L2 im on console or stick it in to the ground and does the spell i said earlier like they could have done countless things with this Covenant they could have made it rank up to lvl 10 with this idea and im not even done let alone with just this Covenant i have thoughts on the darkwraith Covenant too.
Sorry im just mad. Nitos bonfire can be warped to but it only spawns after killing him therefore removing the ability to use it for the covenant. Why make this one warpable and not others in the game that serve a purpose? As for the other lords, you can warp to four kings bonfire to reach kaathe quickly and seaths bonfire for twinkling titanite and purging stone farming.
Head scratcher for sure. Tf i didn't killed nito but the coffin don't allow me to go to nito's room. They can only be present as long as the gravelord is active too which makes it even more confusing.
Very disappointing. At least in Remastered, Gravelord invasion signs can appear in games of players in standard NG; I had one appear to me on a completely fresh file in Undead Burg. If anyone is in the parish with this backstab them with dragon torso stone and hornets ring.
