In order to perform a rescue, you need to choose two companions to trick their way into the Fort. Writing a walkthrough for this would be practically impossible as each combination of companions causes different conversation options.

Your best bets are Lelilana, Zevran and, surprisingly, Dog. Leliana and Zevran should be able to talk their way past everyone, while Dog has a variety of different things that he can do.

Personally, I find Oghren to be the most fun as he basically attempts the worst bluff you've ever seen right and the start and then decides it'll be easier to just kill everyone. Once you get past the third conversation, you will have to fight anyway. Once you make it to the cell, make sure to loot the key from the guards to open the cell door. If you use lockpicking to open it then the game will glitch and you'll have to reload a previous save. To escape, approach the door and call the guard over.

Open it for a gift and to retrieve the Free Sailor Sextant needed for a quest. You can now leave through the back door. Confront the slavers inside and shut them down.

If this happens, Loghain will order you arrested, with Arl Eamon declaring he will fight back. A melee breaks out in the Landsmeet chamber. If you win the Landsmeet, Loghain will accuse everyone of being traitors and refuse to give up power, and you can either directly challenge him to an honorable duel or simply attack. Other named nobles fight on the side of whomever they support. After you deplete Loghain's health, the Grand Cleric and nobles will break up the fight, and suggest that the matter be settled with a one-on-one duel. Whether you win or lose the debate, and whether you brawl openly or have Loghain call off his men to settle things honorably, the fate of Ferelden is left up to a duel between Loghain and the Warden, Alistair, or a companion fighting as their champion.

If you want to use more mundane tactics, Loghain is hard to hit, but you can even out the playing field immensely with some Soldier's Bane to keep his special attacks to a minimum.

As Loghain doesn't use poultices, having a healthy stock of them yourself can help you simply outlast him provided they can actually be used between his knockdown-inducing abilities. There are a vast number of possibilities and outcomes for the main characters after Loghain has been defeated in the duel. Some of these choices and options will only be available to characters with a high Coercion rank, or by laying groundwork for them in prior events.

Depending on the choices made during the dialogue, deciding the fates of these characters can be a tangled affair, with one decision having significant consequences for the fate of the others. After rescuing Anora and before the Landsmeet, you will have several opportunities to talk to Alistair regarding his becoming king. If you intend to make him king and are pursuing a positive relationship with him, and regardless of whether you really intend to have him marry Anora, you should convince him that it's a good idea, using either cunning or persuasion to do so.

Otherwise, after the Landsmeet and the cutscene at Arl Eamon's estate, he will disapprove Also, this has to be done before leaving the estate for the Landsmeet; the necessary conversation options are not available after that. However, it should be noted that if you have hardened Alistair and do not want him to rule, do not let him duel or kill Loghain otherwise the Warden will not get to decide and Alistair will automatically be made king.

Anora will refuse to marry the man who kills her father, so if you are planning for either the male Human Noble or Alistair to rule with her, you must make the other individual perform the deed. If you make Alistair rule jointly with Anora it is still possible to recruit Loghain.

Note: Once the Landsmeet is convened, and if Zevran was recruited as a companion, you will have a random encounter with Taliesen when you travel to any location outside the Market District, regardless of destination or intention.

He does not have to be in the current party for this encounter to happen. If his approval is low enough he will betray the Warden, and if it is high enough it will force a party reselect and lock Zevran into the party for the fight with Taliesen. It is likely you will have to complete this battle before you can access the destination you seek.

If you do not wish to bring Zevran to rescue the queen, you must complete the encounter by traveling between the Market District and anywhere else such as the Pearl until it triggers, or bring Shale to force a party reselect at the estate.

Note: The reaction of the guards and servants to your party is a scripted event. This means that even with max stealth and high dexterity the servants will raise the alarm and turn the castle hostile to you the instant you enter the first room if you are not wearing the guard uniforms. The quest can still be completed without combat, since even though the castle is hostile to you, with a high enough stealth the guards will still not see you moving your party back into the little entrance hallway and telling them to hold position is recommended.
